In 1492, Columbus sailed the… oh, eff you.

[8:48am] I don’t hate you folks that have today off. Yeah, I may’ve just told Lemmonex that “all the government people and contractors who are home today can suck it,” but I don’t really mean it. It’s not your fault that you’re off work. It’s not your fault that you probably aren’t even awake right now to read this. I just wish that everyone celebrated the holiday, and that we could all stay home from work. I’m just looking out for you guys. I’m that generous.

So, on this 1st workday of the week that should be the 3rd day of a three-day, I’m not as bitter as I may seem. I’m not contemplating the homicide of the next person to knock on my door. I’m not lamenting that I’ve been here 1ΒΌ hours and it feels like it should be lunch time. I’m not going to delete the comments of anyone who wags their virtual tongue at me because they’re home today.

Okay, maybe that last part isn’t true. Or any of those parts. I don’t even know. What I do know is that I’ll probably be back here later for more blogging torture, because that’s all that’s going to make the day pass.

  1. It is like Columbus gave those Native Americans the pox FOR NOTHING. I want my day off, dammit.

But we paid him back by naming a city in Ohio after him.

  2. I totally need this day off so that my Italian blood and my Native American blood can fight it out over whether or not it should be a holiday. 1/4 of my body is throwing a parade and 1/32 of it is protesting that parade. It’s exhausting.

I recommend that you take a personal day. You know, to rest.

  3. I just woke up, what’d I miss?

  4. Solidarity. (but I am leaving early.)

  5. State workers in CA don’t get Columbus day off any more, but now they get Cesar Chavez day off at the end of March instead. I always thought that was a cool trade-off.

  6. We named one here in Georgia, too.

He’s got plenty of “circles” and round-a-bouts, too…it’s obvious we love him, so why can’t we all celebrate?
