Observation

Longtime readers here know that I make no bones about my Bon Jovi enjoyment. Since I’ve been writing (4 years this summer), I’ve seen Bon Jovi 3 times: Once at Live 8 in Philadelphia, the concert I live blogged at Verizon Center in February of 2006, and with Lemmonex at Verizon Center, led off by Daughtry, in February 08. Make fun of me. I don’t care.

I was just looking at the Top 100 on iTunes, and Livin’ on a Prayer checks in at #50. This gave me pause, because I couldn’t figure out why it was on the list. Yes, it’s a great song, but there was nothing recent, or so I thought, that would’ve caused it to show up. And then it hit me.

Rock Band 2.

It’s the effect that some of the unknown bands hope will be had by being a part of the game. People play their song on the game, like the song, download the song, and hopefully their album. Understood. But Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer?

[gasp]

Do these people really not know the song? Have they really not heard it before playing the game? Am I getting old? Are these just kids doing this? Why can’t I stop asking questions? Yes, maybe some of these are people who just realize “hey I know this song” but don’t have it, so they download it. But that’s a lot of downloading to make it to #50 overall.

Sigh. For whatever reason, this is disheartening.
